Car Tax from Disabled to Normal

Ok, we've bought a car from an independent dealer, due to collect tomorrow. 6 months tax was part of the deal but the dealer has called to say that the previous owner was disabled so he has to change the taxation class by going to the local DVLA office. He needs our insurance certificate/cover note in order to get the tax.

This makes sense and isn't a problem, I'm just wondering what will happen. Does the DVLA issue a new V5C? It's currently in the last owners name. So whose name would the re-issued V5C be in? We've only paid a deposit so far so I can't think the dealer would put the car in our name already. But at the same time it can't go in the last owners name and it can't go in his name either. Anyone know what to expect?

Should be in your name but I thought they could register it as PLG when the car was sold.

Suspect the issue is getting it new tax though as the dealer only has the old V5 with disabled on it. They will probably get the tax and get the change of owner sent off at the same time.
What if there was no such thing as a rhetorical question?

Car will be re reg'd in the OP's name - hence why the dealer wants their insurance cert.

New V5 will be issued in the OP's name and address and will follow in the post shortly. Tax disc wil be issued by the LVLO office. Disabled disc will have been sent in to Blackpool by the previous owner.

Yes that's always the same. Matters not that the taxation class is changing.

Yes, that's basically what I said. The dealer has the V5C in the previous owners name so they'll take that to the DVLA office, get the new tax using the MOT, insurance etc and the DVLA will send off the V5C for the new one to come back as per usual.

Not necessarily. I bought a car from a dealer which had a disabled tax disc on it. I went through the rigmarole above myself though.

Thanks guys. I'm just uncertain that the dealer would put it in our name when we havent officially bought the car yet. We will be tomorrow of course, but it's a leap of faith for the dealer.

So can we expect to get the green slip from the old V5C, as we would do normally, so at least we have some documentation relating to the car?

And is LVLO local vehicle licencing office?

LVLO - Local Ve-hickle Licencing Office. Same as the DVLA, just more retards.

    Naughty dealer.
