Student financial Help

Hi All ;)
I am looking for some serious help from anyone in the know :D

I am currently unemployed & i am looking at going to college to improve my future work prospects.....but when i have been to the "dole hole" they said they no longer "help" with costs! SO i need to know where & what i can get from other avenues, as i obviously cant afford to pay for it myself.

i will be classed as a "Mature" :rotfl:student, i dont have dependents etc, but i do need to know if there is any way of getting -
1) a reduction in fees or fees wavered
2) help with cost of equipment / books / travel etc

And of course any other helpful advise you all may have

thanks in advance nic x

Depends on previous study and what level you plan to study at.

You say college, so I assume this is pre-degree, which means there isn't a lot of support available. Depending on your level of experience and qualifications it may be better to look at OU courses part time and having a job alongside.

What is your ultimate aim? If its basic qualifications like level 2 maths and english then there are free courses available in most towns in the evening, so easy to fit around work/unemployment

if long term you are planning on going to uni, then the access course is the best starting point. This is no longer free, but is funded via a loan, similar to uni funding. However depending on course hours, you may not be able to still sign on and obviously if a job does come up, you will have to drop off the course

You can also do access courses in the evenings, so you can work as well...I did this years ago (2 evenings/wk), though its hard working full time and studying in the evenings too, but doable!

Have a read on the student finance site, phone them, see what they say, there is money out there.
