vanquis not playing fair

Hi not sure if anyone can help but if you can please do.

i sent off an SAR to vanquis a few days ago inlcuded a cheque and all details.

On Saturday i recieved a letter from them with my cheque enclosed stating that they were returning my cheque as they assumed it was to do with bank charges and there was no need to pay for this information. it also stated that the matter would be dealt with and i would recieve a letter with further details.

Today i have recieved a letter from them stating that they believe their charges to be fair and will not be persuing my claim.

First of all i didn't make a claim (although i was intending to) and even if i did i had no information from them to allow me to do so.

My main question is can they do this? i was under the impression that they had a legal obligation to provide me with the details as requested?

Sorry for rambling and hope this makes sense to someone who can help

Thanks

My main question is can they do this?

Effectively, yes. They are trying to save you £10. If you still wish the SAR to take place then you write back saying you still want the information.

However, they have also started the timebar clock ticking on the complaint. So, you are now on a deadline if you wish to refer your case to the FOS. Not that the FOS upholds bank charges cases any more.
