Belfast bride for New York

Hi Folks,

Hoping I can get some advice. My partner and I are heading to New York next year to get married as we really want to do something different. It will be just the two of us and we want to be able to put some money into buying a house (that's another forum..). Anyhow I amwondering if anyone could give me advice on:

Wedding dress - Like any typicle girl I would like a nice dress but don't want to spend lots. Can anyone suggest a good shop (with nice assistants) to go to and how I get it across to NYC without ruining it. And the groom's suit too.

Nice places to go on your wedding day for food, pic etcs

Any suggestions for doing something unique in the city? I have been before but would really like to make it special for my partner.

Another girlie question, hair and make-up is it easy to arrange when you get there?

Have been a bit stressed so far with engagement as everyone telling what I should be doing i.e. hen do, flying on somewhere else after getting hitch in NY, having a do when we come back. We just want something simple and just to enjoy the city.

Any information gratefully received:T.

    Hi there,

We did exactly the same thing last year, obviously I don’t know how far into planning you are, but here are some recommendations:

If you are still looking for someone to do your service then I recommend getting in touch with Rev Annie Lawrence http://www.revannielawrence.com/

She really is lovely and accommodating to everything that you want to make the day special and she loves to Skype so you can use her wealth of NYC knowledge to plan what you want to do.

If you are looking for a photographer then Casey Fatchett http://www.fatchett.com/ did our photography and we had him for 2 hours.

I suppose it depends on how organised you want to be but, apart from the ceremony date and booking the above, we did everything when we got there.

We married in Central Park, you can choose just about anywhere in the park, so we just walked around a couple of days before and found somewhere that we loved. Annie and Casey both told us where to meet them in the morning and that’s what we did.

The photo’s we literally walked around Central Park, the Rev asked if she could stay with us and we just wondered around chatting about New York and Casey took us to some really nice places in Central Park to get some photo’s. I think he ended up taking 300 pictures, but they were fantastically natural rather than being staged.

You could also consider going back into Times Square for photos.

We went shopping in Manhattan for wedding outfits; I got a gorgeous 3 piece suit from a tailor in NYC and my wife a gorgeous outfit from a little boutique we stumbled across at 11.00pm………the night before the wedding!!

After we’d done the photos, we jumped on the subway with Rev Annie, went back to the hotel to change and went on a cruise round the Hudson.

It was a fantastic day. It wasn’t at all conventional. It was very NYC. Most importantly it was all about us!
