Weetabix, rice cripies, cornflakes ..... savoury recipes

Hello everyone,

I have just been through my food cupboards and have found 2 boxes rice cripies ,2 large boxes of Cornflakes and a big box of weetabix that has been lurking in the cupboard for ages:rotfl:

I have recently made lots of rice cripie and cornflake cakes mainly to use up all the Easter chocolate my dds have been given:)!!!!

We want a break from chocolate and I would like to use the boxes up as they are not our usual breakfast cereals.

Can anyone help and suggest savoury recipes to use up the cereals... maybe using cheese or vegetables..... everywhere I go seems to suggest sweet things and we want savoury please

thanks

There are a number of recipes that use cornflakes as a coating on chicken or as a topping on a casserole. I don't personally have any tried and tested, but I do know they're out there!

The cornflakes can be used in place of breadcrumbs just crush them up and use as toppings on things like macaroni cheese, fish pie etc. also use in things like meatballs or meatloaf instead of breadcrumbs and to coat chicken drumsticks before oven baking or frying.

You can use crushed up weetabix in the same ways as crushed up cornflakes. I've done HM KFC and used weetabix instead of breadcrumbs to coat.

This is a sweet option but you can make rice krispie treats using marshmallow which are lovely :) Different to chocolate and very nice!

  • I must confess I'd struggle with this. I did once flatshare with a bloke who was a chef and he made something savoury with shreddies. It was a bit revolting though......

I bought some cheap version weetabix and didn't like them much, so now I add them to porridge. Try adding a handfull to stew to thicken it.
