untaxed car fine

Hi, in early march on the tuesday my car got clamped for being parked outside my house. I had declared a sorn and normally keep it in my grandparents garage but it had an appointment for its mot on the thursday. So picked it up on the tue because I had work commitments on the weds.it was clamped on the morning and I didnt argue I paid £260 release and surity fee.when I spoke to the women who took payment I asked if that would be end of it and would I have to pay anything else? I was told that that there would be no action taken and that would be the end of the matter, but this wek a month later I recieved a letter in post saying I had to pay £210 fine which I just dont have at this moment as I only work part time.is there nything I can do as they dont accept installments? My other complain is why wasnt I told this when I rang and paid the £260 surety and release fees?

Ouch, what an expensive mistake - but you should know from the SORN form you signed that you couldn't move the car onto the road except on its way to/from the MOT...

Is the latest penalty from the DVLA? You haven't said who sent it.
PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

If you don't pay on time what does it say is the next step on the letter to you ?
