Here birds leave the berries. They seemingly detest them, which for lovers of the hideous things is great as the berry season on them is admirably long. Occasionally I put a few berried twigs in a vase but they just do nothing for me. In the same way I know davesnave feels about my roses:D. There are lots if very respectable, useful and wonderfully easy plants I have no love for. Which is- great shame!
I got rid of a common orange pyracantha, but I do have one called dwarf teton in a middle bed with 2 group 3 clematis growing through it
I love roses, white ones are my fave, iceberg is wonderful if a bit leggy.0 -
Prunus luscitanica variegated is nicer than spotted laurel , my fave combo is philadelphus next to ruby red wegeila, fab together in flower at same time.0

Ooh nice combo. I've got simular
Philadelphus Aureus (yellow leaved Mock Orange) next to Prunus Cistina Crimson Dwarf, next to weigela folis purpurea, underplanted with Nepeta (cat mint) with Clg rose New Dawn across the back of our east facing wall. I keep adding Heuchara Silver Scrolls underneath too but the Nepeta covers it0 -

Must look up that prunus, sounds nice, love heuchera also, dont know the name but I have pink and a bright cerise/crimson one.
I bought lots of small plants last year, from a specialist nursery and cant wait till they flower again.:j. :j
I collect hardy geranuims, but one dissapoints, a white one, as it has a very short season and refuses to 2nd flower:(
Also , for same reason, a white dicentra which performs very badly even after 5/6yrs.0 -
Thank you all so much for all the wonderful info and ideas for shade-loving plants. I've been looking at some of your suggestions and, despite having said I don't like Hostas, after reading how several people recommend them, I thought I'd have another look at them. I seen some photos online of some beautiful shade-loving Hostas and realise that the reason I don't like the ones in the bed I inherited when we moved to this house a few months ago is because although there are lots of healthy green leaves and plenty of pink flower stems you can see a layer of rotting leaves and the thick, brown stems, or what I thought were stems but now, having read a little bit more info, think might be rhizomes under the healthy growth. I find all the brown rotting stuff revolting to look but just assumed it had to be there. However, none of the photos of Hostas I've seen online have these visible. If anyone can suggest the best way to deal with this problem I'd be grateful.“A journey is best measured in friends, not in miles.”

Were I live there's the WI 'Women's Institute' & they hold a weekly plant sale for charities.
You can buy from them realy cheaply especialy if your donating some cutting.
Also look on Facebook & see if there are any buy & sell or for sale & wanted groups from your area or surrounding as I often swap plants with others local to me on facebook.
