Define small animal farming. It doesn't mean pie in the sky does it?
Very sensible suggestion there from comeandgo.I can afford anything that I want.
Just so long as I don't want much.0 -
We do try not to be completely negative (well most of us try not to be completely negative!) about people's bright ideas, but we seem to be pretty unanimous on this one ...
I definitely wouldn't get involved with livestock on a commercial basis without a lot of solid experience working for someone else. There are so many things which can go wrong, and if you don't know whether a problem is serious or not you're either going to end up with dead livestock or massive vet bills, possibly both.
Actually, that's another thought: whatever animal it is, you'd need to make sure you had reasonably local access to a vet which would deal with 'your' animal. There must be vets in London who know one end of eg a cow from the other, because there are several city farms already, but you won't necessarily find the right expertise at your local vet!Signature removed for peace of mind0 -
ok, you would not see any returns for years if ever.
our local council evicted my friends from the farm they have been on since Victorian times so they could sell it for housing even though it was in the green belt. the crown also owns a lot of land round here but your chances of getting a crown farm would be nil.
about 15 years ago we put up a barn like structure and it cost over £50,000 in total.
business rates are expensive - we had no power, water or bin collection but they still wanted about £3000 a year.
you will need cash and plenty of it
sorry to be so negative'We're not here for a long time, we're here for a good time0
