More hijacked accounts

I posted a few weeks ago about the ease with which a certain scammer seems to be able to hijack accounts - even having hijacked Tesco at one point.

Well he's back at it again, as soon as one set of scam listings are removed he just re-lists with another hijacked account.

I reported him this morning and those have been pulled, but he's straight back with the same items on yet another account;

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Gibson-Jimmy-Page-VOS-Black-Beauty-Les-Paul-006-/140950408689?pt=UK_Musical_Instruments_Guitars_CV&hash=item20d14c8df1

This will be 'live' for a couple of hours and will then be pulled.

I wonder how many people actually fall for it?

I'd also like to know how he manages to hack so many accounts - Ebay insider?

  • I have been hijacked once it was a very stressful time, a big elaborate job they done too, they changed my email details, my password then moved me from the UK to Canada, listed some big main advertisement page adverts for boats, and cars , luxury ones too!!

    They did not intercept my paypal only ebay.

    I only logged in and realised I had a load of flash adverts for motor homes etc and I spoke to an American chap on telephone right away, who sorted me out, and I got new account details.

    I was shocked and dismayed to see my visa linked to my account had been charged over £300 in listing fees .

    Took a couple of more calls to the ebay reps to get that credited back and cancelled seeing as it was a team of crooks who placed the massive homepage adverts!

    I have confidence that their security measures are quite tough but hackers are good, however all across the world companies will always get hacked and hijacked and it really isn't worth getting your knickers in a twist, just let the fraud teams and police etc continue to catch and jail them and know that if it is unfortunate enough to happen to YOU then it isnt the end of the world!

    I am a Private eBay Accountee Hijack Survivor!!

    This might be a silly question, but I'll ask it anyway...

    Assuming the eBay account holder's password isn't obvious or simple and they don't fall for any phishing email prompting them to log on to a fake eBay website, (and unless it's someone from eBay on the inside), and assuming the account holder isn't using someone else's dodgy virus ridden PC, how can eBay accounts be hacked?

    , how can eBay accounts be hacked?

    No sensible person would answer that on here. Anyhow, they do.

    If you receive a fishing email asking for the extra information, your secret questions like what town were you born in etc, it means they already have your password but are getting extra questions because you are logged in from two countries.

    If you get this second form of fishing email, change your password immediately.

    That doesn't really answer porto bello's question;

    Like porto bello, i'm sure there is more to it that the old "you've got a virus/you fell for a phishing email" explanantion.

    Jeez, I thought I made it clear. You can't explain on a forum on the internet how hackers hack people's accounts. And just to make it completely clear, to try to do so is illegal.

  • I never had any dodgy phishing totally obvious emails or went to outside links, criminals obviously develop and use sophisticated software and log keystrokes, I have no idea how they intercepted my email account and ebay but it never happened again and that was 10 years ago. Report it right away and it gets stopped.

    You are forgetting tablets and smart phones.
    The lack of sense/security, some people have on those is shocking. They will download and try any old carp, then happily log into eBay and their email.
