I don't think so. If I remember rightly it's £10 plus the cost of posting it, but I'm not 100% sure. If it's a thick wad of paper and it's got to be posted to Sweden they will probably charge for it. I think you're better off asking them directly, tbh.

Our surgery charges £10 if you collect the paperwork. I'm sure they'd charge extra if it had to be posted.

If you weren't in the UK for long (?) you may not have many notes, so maybe it won't cost you that much. I doubt they'd post to Sweden for free, though, but no harm in asking the surgery how much it's going to cost you before you commit to ordering them.
  • I'm puzzled that you think the GP/hospital should pay for postage. YOU want the notes, YOU pay for the privilege!

I had to copy 30 years worth of dental records for a patient of mine. Every single scrap of paper, it took me almost an hour and I had to do it in my lunch break. Entirely useless for him but he wanted them and we had to provide everything that had ever been written down on his behalf.

If you have NHS care (I am unclear as to whether Poq is currently entitled to NHS care) you can ask for a copy of any letter about you to be sent to you, and this is not normally charged for.
This includes results of tests. If they are not in the form of a letter, you can ask for a copy to be printed for you. In principle this would carry a charge, but no-one has charged me for the odd page.
I have a file at home, and I keep copies of letters, test results etc. If I go to the GP for treatment for a minor ailment, I just write it down so I remember myself.

I think we should all carry our own medical records, and some years ago a trial was suggested, as an extension of the parent held record that is given to all children, but it went the way of many good ideas...........

I wouldn't mind paying, but I think it just "feels" different, printing one page, posting one copy of a letter instead of the tedious business of copying a whole file. And if you think that is tedious, then you should sit redacting addresses of children etc (as I have had to sometimes) on enormous files!

couldn't one of the admin staff have done that?

It doesnt matter who does it ... it still has to be done and also other staff may not know what they are printing off and thus if it is relevant. Additionally ....regards the payment ... someone would have to spend the time doing it which is time not doing what they are meant to be doing.

If it's admin staff, tasks like photocopying would be part of their job. Tedious, yes, but so is most admin work!

I think an SAR is what you are looking for. Our local hospital wanted £10 for us to find out what had happened at my mothers single audiology treatment, but no extra postage charge. If you really want to know what is on your record, then the best way may be to register with a GP & at your introductory appt just ask them to confirm that everything is as you expect in your records. Although I think that that is the problem. You are worried that something may appear in your records which you think may be to your discredit. I think though that is the only way you will acquire the information free.
