Poq, who do you think pays for the time, paper, ink and overheads if you decide you want to see your records? It's not a charity!!

LOL, a bit of paper, ink and clicking print does not cost £10

Medical records prior to the last ten years will be handwritten records so these would need to be photocopied individually. I've worked for a GP practice and had the mind numbingly boring job of photocopying someone's medical files - it's certainly not a matter of clicking print at all! GP notes, practice nurse notes, immunisation status, letters from consultants, other therapists, blood results, x-rays, scans - it all amounts to a SIGNIFICANT chunk of time, effort and ink.

I think you underestimate quite what is involved. May I ask..? Your title for the thread is quite unusually worded ... exactly what do you think they are likely to "have" on you?
  • Also, half of it's probably not going to make sense to you and the handwritten bits may be illegible.

Poq might be used to the health service in Scandinavia ;) (where you probably do just click 'print'!)

OP if you want to see your NHS GP records, (and you don't have to give a reason why) write to the surgery you're registered at, specifying the time period you want copies for (eg 1999-present) and ask how much it would be.

If you've had hospital treatment in the UK you might have to write to them, too, if you want a copy of your records, though some are more co-operative than others with this, I've found.

    Thanks all for the help.

I came to uni here much more recently so it shouldnt be a problem.

Everything that I met in the doctor with he wrote into his computer, not a single handwritten note (even nurses did that).

Let's not get ahead of ourselves and play some linguistics game, I'm Swedish -- my English may falter at some point.

I'm not playing linguistics at all. How can I get a copy of my NHS notes? Would be fine for future reference though :)

I work in an NHS department that sometimes has to provide copies of notes for legal cases and agree that it takes ages to photocopy them. Every page, test form, record sheet, letter, printed email, page from the telephone message pad all has to be copied, everything unbound, unstapled and stapled back together. I wish it was as easy as just pressing print (or even as easy as just putting it in the photocopier feeder and pressing go, if it was even just all the same sized bits of paper it might help!). Roll on the new NHS IT system

We charge £50 for a full set of paper and computer notes or £10 for just computer notes. You need to request them in writing. Or alternatively you can view them at the surgery and make copies at 10p per page.

Ask your Practice Manager and they'll tell you what you want to know.

    Does that £10 include postage?
