How do you compare computer processor?

What in your opinion is better a AMD® Athlon™ 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 3600+ or Intel® Core™ 2 Duo E4300 Processor (1.80GHz,1066MHz,2MB cache)?

I will be using my computer for buring dvd's and cd's, gaming and photo editing.

Also are the above processor powerful enough for a computer with 2048mb and 320gb?

The Intel Core2duo is the Better Processor.

2048mb and 320Gb are just the memory and hardrive sizes so dont worry about them.

They are quite similarly specified chips with the Athlon being cheaper and the Core 2 Duo having slightly better performance. They are both at the budget end of newer chips and neither will light up when it comes to heavy gaming. If looking at the AMD try to get the better specified X2 3800+ (slightly better performance than E4300 and as cheap currently as the 3600+).

There was a full comparison in the June PC Pro of the current chip offerings if you can get hold of a copy (not sure if this is on their website or not).

Edit: Forgot to say, a fair amount of the performance you will get on photo editing and gaming will come down to the graphics chip/card.

that'll compare cpu's for you - cpu won't affect game performance as much as the gfx card will. For video and photo editing intel have always been generally better and their new (well newish) batch of chips the core II duo's far outperform AMD's chips at the moment
