What damages a car more. " THE DRIVER ".

Its not about how many cold starts. If mileage damages the engine then why do some cars get over 200,000 miles and others expire with less than 100,000?

Because the driver thrashes them from cold probably, Not letting the engine warm up before trying to get the outside lane of the motorway and see if they can redline it in each gear without it exploding.

I had a diesel Cavalier that i took for an Mot and the tester said the emissions weren't good enough. He asked what sort of driving i did and i said i didn't often go over 50mph. which he reckoned was no good for the car. He told me to go for a drive down the nearby motorway and put my foot down then come back. Got back and he gave me a pass.

I've heard similar stories about revving the nuts off an engine just before the test. It does make you question the purpose/point of the test though.
