email addresses in messages

I know Ebay apparently tried to stop this happening and put some new rules in place recently, to stop this happening.

Just curious, but I got a message from a potential buyer this morning who put his email address in a message to me, asking for a private deal.
(He put his email in using the words 'dot net' rather than ''.net to avoid being detected)

Can I get in any trouble for not reporting this message, or even for receiving it?

I know that would seem really unfair, but paypal once closed down my mums account forever, because someone who had a bad history with ebay/paypal, who was a family member, tried to send her some money through paypal. She rejected the payment as she wanted nothing to do with this person's dodgy dealings, but paypal banned her account forever! She was really upset as it put an end to her Ebay hobby, too.

No - it happens all the time. Stop worrying.

  • I heard ebay were doing that but I have seen sellers (private) with email me on such and such for more info and tel numbers to make contact on the body of their ads nothing has been masked or removed

The other day there, I had two decent pics up of an item I was punting. I had some silly woman email me twice the same day, asking me to take extra pics , close ups and this that and other and to email to her directly to such and such at such and such the full format of her email address came up on my side.

I of course thought go f yourself, as if I am going to all that trouble for someone who I don't even know, just look at the pics on the listing and make your own bloody mind up.

I reported the emails, blocked them and they didnt write back, I sold my item to someone who was quite happy with the images already on the ad.

They could be anyone from anywhere and are a chancer, and a cheeky bee wanting extra pics ,close up and personally emailed to them at some yahoo address, they didnt bid , I don't give anyone a reply or even think twice just ignore them and report them if they are doing it to loads of people maybe ebay will get their fingers out their butts and put their non existant "security measures" in place same as Amazon!

so, in summary , just ignore any emails, either delete and forget, or if they have asked more than one time for the same thing, just report the whole email and let ebay give them the spam warning email!

Never enter into correspondence with anyone over an ebay item!
