Lloyds / HBOS Merger - Find my shares!

My wife got shares in HBOS when Halifax demutualised in 2001. She kept these in the HBOS Shareholder Account for 8 years, until the credit crunch happened, at which point she assumed they were wiped out due to HBOS' financial situation at the time and gave them up as worthless.

I have recently realised that under the terms of the forced merger, HBOS shareholders were given Lloyds TSB shares, so naturally want to try and claim them.

Does anyone know how I can go about accessing the Lloyds shares? The last thing we have from the HBOS Shareholder Account is a statement from 2008 which was sent to our former address overseas. I can't find anything on the Lloyds investor relations site to say how we can change the address, or identify her Lloyds shares.

They set up Halifax Sharedealing to handle their own shares, then expanded it to become a general stockbroker.

Presumably you've now got an account with them with some Lloyds shares in it, and you need to reconnect with it. If you've got an account number, you might be able to register for online access on the website, otherwise you'll need to phone.

Nothing to do with Lloyds. Since you held the shares through an account with an intermediary, not by actual paper share certificate, they'll be in the name of a nominee company and your name won't be on the actual register.
