Faulty mp3 player - query re return for refund?

I own a SanDisk Sansa Clip MP3 player that since purchase I've barely used.
I *found* it in a drawer last weekend and decided to put some music on it only to discover that the power button isn't working.
If the mp3 player is connected to my computer then I can play the music. The mp3 player also seems to stay on when removed from the computer so will play the tracks - but I'm not sure if this will work every-time?.
The power button is definitely faulty. Its like its become loose from its connection inside and makes a tapping noise when pressed.
I thought I had had this player for yonks but it actually turns out I've had it less than a year so I was thinking of returning it. It was an online purchase from @mazon but I've no idea where the headphones are and no idea which usb cable came with the player? Do I need to return these items as well??
I'm reluctant to order a replacement so would like my money back. I'm not sure without the additional items, @mazon would do this?

So you want to return an MP3 player for a refund after a year, without half the stuff it came with?
Good luck with that. Additionally you have no right to a refund it replacement, they can repair if they want. That's their call, not yours.0 -
Speak to Amazon and see what they say. I have returned faulty items to Amazon a few times without the accessories and they still gave me a replacement.0

I've mislaid the headphones and I have no idea which of the USB cables I own came with the player so its not through choice that I would be returning the player without them.0 -
I'm guessing that you also have no idea if the damage is caused by yourself/someone else considering it's been in the drawer for so long where other things could damage it when rummaging?0

Ye, technically they could also refuse to do anything unless you provide prove the fault is inherent.
Although Amazon do seem to have a good reputation, so I wouldn't be surprised if they just refunded you to be honest0 -
Does this player have a power button lock mechanism, similar to ipods, to prevent it being used accidentally.0

No. the design of the power button to be fair is poor. I subsequently ordered the newer version as an xmas present for a family member and the power button on that is much more substantial. I googled the fault yesterday and it appears to be quite common.0 -
If it's still within warranty then it may be worth contacting the Manufacturer to see if they can repair it. At the end of the day if you want Amazon to give you a remedy you will have to prove the fault is inherent to manufacture rather than misuse or wear & tear (something I fear will prove nigh on impossible here) and then, and only then, will you be entitled to a "remedy", which can be one of repair, replacement or partial refund, given you've had the player for nearly a year.0
