Adjust the office clock so it matches the clock-in clock-out machine.

you could have the clocking on system set to the right time and get there 5 mins before you are meant to then leave on time and the boss looks at the clock that is set 10 mins behind and it looks like you are leaving early.

Trust me I have been there where the clock in reception was fast so it looked like people were late in

Receptionist sees you come in the door checks the clock and writes the time down ie LATE

Then you log onto the computer on time or early and leave according to reception either at 5pm or later

This was only bought to the attention of us when people were accused of being late (by the time written down) and then we got IT to compare to the PC log on times

We got the office manager and IT to make sure all clocks and the IT system time was the same as in the correct time!

To leave anywhere near my official finish time would be an amazing feat at the moment.

To me, its a case of finishing the job in hand and if that means I work on past my finishing time then so be it

Oh don't you worry - we can regularly finish HOURS after the time we're supposed to finish at little notice.

By little notice, i mean no notice.
By regularly, i mean come certain times of the year - every day.

Are you hourly paid or salaried?
How does the clock in/out machine calculate your shift? By the minute? By the 5mins, 10, 15?
How do you work out 20 minutes as the clock is either constantly 10 minutes fast, or 10 mins slow so it'll be 10mins one way at the start of the day, 10 mins hero other at the end so overall no difference. (This has been pointed out already.)
So long as you go by the same clock for both, it makes no difference.

  • If you regularly work hours overtime, then does it matter? It's the clocking in/out clock that records your time so if anyone comments on it, tell them to sort their accuracy out as its not your problem if all the clocks are completely different.

I'm assuming the 'boss' isn't the only member of management?

Go speak to HR or one of the other bosses above him and mention that due to the differences between the two clocks the boss is giving people hassle when they leave by the sign in clock time. Ask them to clarify which they want you to use.

If you clock in and out for your shift then you have to got by the clocking machine, it will be the only one that will have an accurate record kept of the times.
Any disciplinary or complaints against you can be countered by this record which I assume is also used to calculate your pay, so you will have proof of all hours worked on your payslips.
