Howdens also might I add keep an eye out for planning application notices that are local to them.
Since applying for planning they have mailed us twice with account application forms stating they have seen our planning application for our extension, please find enclosed a product brochure and account application pack.

If I was to make a product that costs £8k and didn't get paid for it because the builder "thought" it wasn't quite up to scratch I can assure you it certainly would still be in the clients house especially if she thinks it lovelly. There would be a bare wall where it once stood..:D
Apologies if I have misled anyone. I am not here to knock builders or Howdens. My personal example was from a big name (I will decline from naming them!), but this was not Howdens.
In fairness to the big name, they buy in components. They are a merchant. This is everyday business. Consequently, they have not paid their supplier...and are trying (so I am reliably informed!) to resolve matters.
Provided my trading account with this supplier is marked "in dispute" I can continue to get credit from them. So, for the last year I have! Meanwhile, they are a global player so I am happy to let them slog it out. They are a lot bigger than me!
Apologies to all the mse users who are tradesmen and small businesses, you know all this. The relevance, or education, is to those like OP who may not know how the finances and liabilities function.
It is easy to knock companies like Howdens, but there is always another viewpoint. Hence my comments in the interests of fair play.0 -
All, I am in a bit of a mess with all this.
We had a Howdens kitchen and appliances put in in November 2011, the cooker has since stopped working, when ringing the repair line they want the actual date of purchase.i have some invoice number but Howdens are saying they don't recognise this.
And the repair line wont help!!!
if anyone is in the know, I have a 333/0033333 number does that look like a valid invoice number, where the first 3 digits would be the branch number?
Or a number for Howdens head office, where I can blow my lid0 -

Did you buy the appliance or did the kitchen fitter? Basically, who parted with the money direct to Howdens for this appliance? If it was you then go after Howdens.
It should not be difficult to visit the supplying branch and politely ask what is on their data base for the address or date that is relevant?
If a kitchen fitter purchased the appliance, go after him. In fairness to Howdens the contract would have been with him and not you. And Howdens are a trade supplier.
But if there was only a one year guarantee on the appliance you may need to negotiate, or start a charm offensive. Or even replace the appliance.0
