My IOmega Home Media Drive stopped responding so I took the disc drive out and the SMART monitor on start up said that the drive is failing and needs backing up. I took all the data off and fitted a new disc drive in to the media drive chassis. That's now working again but what can I do with the old disc drive, is it the now junk?
Nothing to see here, move along.

Some people like to harvest the magnets from inside it as they're quite powerful ones that are fun to play with.
The platters also make good frisbies, but may be coated in nasty chemicals.
When you're done, take it to electronics recycling.0 -
If it still sort of works, you might be able to use a software utility to shred files (or whatever the terminology is to make them unreadable) before you get the hammer out.0

Turn it into a candy floss machine
