Killing Bamboo (Short type)
Hi,
My Garden has slowly been taken over by this short bamboo. It was here when we moved it, and tried to dig bits up but the roots are everywhere.
What is the best solution to remove it all?
Growing through my lawn

Cut back, it grows to above 2 feet high and quite bushy.

Any advice would be great.

Glyphosate? If you want to keep the grass, then mix glyphosate with wallpaper paste, and paint onto the bamboo leaves.Warning: This forum may contain nuts.0

Is that Roundup? Don't care about the grass as want to get that relaid.
would Roundup kill the root system of a bamboo?0 -
Ooh its a Sasa Bamboo notorious for spreading every where. Either as Leif has suggested paint on Glyphosphate. Go for a stronger version like RoundUp 360 or a Brushwood killer, or even neat tree & stump killer. Start with the main clump.
Professionals inject the stems with glyphosphate.
Get ready for a battle it will take quite a few applications but persist with it.
If you wanted to keep a bit, dig up a small section then plant it in a really strong pot.0 -
Thanks everyone.
Of the 3 (360, Brushwood or Neat tree) which is the better at getting rid of it. I think there are 2 main stumps. And when in flow covers the whole side of the bedding garden. Around 1m by 7m. And now starting to hit the grass.
Is it best to hit it now where there is no major growth or let it grow and then hit it?
Seen a few on ebay but unnamed will this do the same job?0 -
Roundup is a trade marked form of glyophosate, and costs more, but ordinary glyphosate is fine. I would spray now, as it is spring and the sap is flowing, and then hit it when it comes back. Why show mercy?Warning: This forum may contain nuts.0

Exactly
Have heard of putting a black sheet over them too to starve them of the sunlight, will this speed along the process0 -
products containing Glyphosphate in a concentrated form normally contains 90g/l whereas concentrated roundup is a little stronger at 120g/l.
Ready to use sprays mostly contain 7.2g/l be it roundup/ weedol/ or other branded glyphosphate.
RoundUp 360 contains 360g/l (so is almost 4x strength) I think its possibly been re-branded this year as RoundUp XL.
its cheaper alternative is Doff Knockdown Maxistrength weedkiller which also contains 360g/l
RoundUp Superstrength tree root killer concentrate comes with a pipette so you can direct neat weedkiller into the hollow of a bamboo cane it is also 360g/l
SBK Brushwood contains a different chemical Triclopyr the advantage is this won't kill grass.
Hope that helps.0 -
This is 360g/l:

It is a lot cheaper than RoundUp. You can see the concentration of glyphosate in a product as it is marked on the packet so you can compare for yourself. Ready to use sprays are expensive. The Bayer garden product contains 7g in one liter.Warning: This forum may contain nuts.0 -
I personally would dig it up. Follow the roots pulling them up as they fly off in all directions no doubt. Be religious about it and plant some up in a big pot as suggested.0
