Can't get my o2 emails in Outlook Express

Strange one this. Even o2 support couldn't work it out. Basically, I use Outlook Express on XP. I have used it for years on the o2 email account. I can get my google mail through it fine but my o2 emails throw up my username and password login box. Have checked they are correct (as well as all my account settings, confirmed with o2 live help) and still it won't accept my details when entered (which are correct). I can login on the o2 website with the same username and password to see my webmail fine so it's not incorrect.

I have even deleted my o2 email account in Outlook Express and re-instated it with no success.

I am stumped.

Check which ports are being used for incoming and outgoing servers (you may be using the standard ports of 110 for POP3 (in) and 25 for SMTP (out), whereas O2 might require use of secure ports (995 (in) and 465 or 587 (out))

Also check that you are using your full email address as your user name

This is the error message I get:

There was a problem logging onto your mail server. Your Password was rejected. Account: 'mail.o2.co.uk', Server: 'mail.o2.co.uk', Protocol: POP3, Server Response: '-ERR [AUTH] invalid user or password', Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Server Error: 0x800CCC90, Error Number: 0x800CCC92

Switch off using a secure (SSL) connection. It s failing at authentication, that should fix it.

Sorry, I forgot to mention that I tried logging on to the web mail this morning and it failed. Yesterday it was ok. So to recap, my password failed in outlook express but worked on web mail. Today, password failed on we mail hence the change. The reason ? No idea but I am not complaining now as I have my email back.
