Nikon F50 35mm SLR Film Camera

I wonder if anyone can help?

Nikon F50 displaying:

"[ E] Err"

I believe this happened when the battery ran out after I was half way through a film. I replaced the battery and got this error. I have rewound the film.

I have tried performing a factory reset on the camera but nothing happens (Menu button and Self Timer for 2 seconds).

I know this is a fairly old camera and not cost effective to send back to Nikon to fix. Probably only worth about £30 but its a nice camera and would be good to get it working again.
