Gr.children give me lots of things , threadworms included

I love my grandchildren dearly and always appreciate their little gifts, but not this one. Seems I have threadworms. Thought I had seen the last of these with my children grown up, but 'fraid not.Am presuming thats where they have come from. Took an Ovex tablet yesterday morning (and made hubby take one as well). How long does it take to kill them as they are still evident if you know what I mean ?

Once you have taken the tablet, things get killed very quickly - normally around 24 hours but you must make sure that everyone is treated at once including the grandchildren and their parents otherwise the cycle will start all over again.

Also, you need to make sure all bed linen etc. is washed as eggs can stay on here as well as towels etc. Make sure hygeine is top priority for 2 weeks as eggs can "live" this long outside the human body.

Thankfully when my daughter had this no-one else in the house was affected. I cleaned everything, door handles etc with disinfectent. Washed the bedding daily and she used seperate towels.
It should clear up within 24hrs and a fortnight later you take another tablet.

Now headlice is another story the little pests don't want to go away...

ovex doesnt kill the worms it paralyses them. the you 'expell' them!
two weeks on the remaining eggs have hatched and you take the second tablet before they get to the egg laying stage! so you MUST take the second tablet!
you have my sympathies! as a child threadworms made my life a misery! and there was only that horrid pripsen powder drink then (shudders!)
eat lots of stuff with garlic too! they hate that!

thanks for the replies so far. I would just say that the OVEX tabs that I have bought are a one dose tablet. It is a 'Family Pack' of 4 tabs. It says in the instructions that one dose will kill the beasties, but in the case of reinfection, your Pharmacist may recommend another tablet in 2 weeks.
I do remember having to take a 2nd dose after 2 weeks when the children were young. Yes, that horrible glass of red Pripsin, trying to get that down a youngster then another dose in 2 weeks !!.
I think that maybe if they are still evident tomorrow (48 hours), I had better take another tablet and then another in 2 weeks just to be quite sure..

Vermox in liquid form is available on perscription, one dose then another a fortnight later.

Anyone suffering from nits invasion the best product i've found is carlyderm, kills them almost immediately. Removing the eggs is a total nightmare you spend hours picking them out as the bone comb doesn't remove them.

Look on the bright side. They help you lose weight without having to worry about the diet.

I think you're thinking of tapeworm - much more serious (threadworm are just a nuisance really - although not nice!).

can someone tell me what they are as my dogs have just been treated for worms as they keep eating sheep poo from the fields.

Whats the difference between dogs worms, tape worms, round worms and threadworms?
