Connecting ipad to tv

Hi

I hope this is the right place if not please redirect this thread.

I have a pioneer plasma tv which has a sliver box which it works through. I also have a black DVD surround sound box and a sky box.

At the back of the surround sound box is a HDMI plug but there is not one on the tv box. If I buy a ipad 2 to tv cable and then a HDMI cable does anyone know if this would work to play movies from my ipad onto my TV?

Sorry if this is confusing I have tried the apple shop who couldnt really help without me taking my TV box in! They only suggested the wire with the HDMI output cable to connect to the TV with.

Thank you in advance

Sounds more like a plasma display, if it has a media box.

All depends on the surround sound, does it support pass through.

    Thanks for replying.

I've got the manuals out and the telly is a PDP 435XDE pioneer
And it is a plasma display system.

Im sorry but i don't know if it supports pass through (dont know what it is). My surround sound is a Panasonic SA-PT450 I can see a HDMI port and its says it WMA/MP3/JPEG compatible.

My brother left me the telly, to be honest it's too technical for me!

Looking at the online manual, the hdmi on the surround is showing as out, so doubt connecting a cable from ipad to that will work.

On the media box, are you sure there is no hdmi input, opened the online manual, does show a hdmi input, as input 3 (manual is for 3 different models). Page 13 of the manual (number 19).

I've found the page and looked again, we do have a HDMI
Port, I couldn't see it as we are currently using it to connect to our sky box.

I assume I can just take the HDMI cable out of sky box into the new ipad connector and it should work.

Thank you so much for taking the time to look it up and answer.
I didn't want to waste the money ordering new cables when they were not right or simply wouldn't work.
    :T

I might take the opportunity to read the manual fully to see what else the plasma display system can do, I only ever use it to watch sky!

    Yes it should work.

Could buy a hdmi switch (about £8 for a cheap one, or about £25 for a decent one) Or as you say, simply unplug sky and plug in cable when you want to use it.

I just got a 3 port HDMI switch from Amazon. Cost very little, and works fine.

What ipad do you have? Something I read recently about the lightning connector and the HDMI plug was about it processing it via the adaptor. (didn't quite get it, but got that it had affected quality of output with some users) And one of the reasons why I've not replaced it with my mini, just use the ipad 2 to view on TV when needed.

Do be aware that it might not output to full size, and this seems dependent on the apps itself. Some of mine do, some don't, when playing video, which is all right on a smaller screen, but looks daft on a big one :D
