Newbie to Credit Card - £100 spending S.75

Hi I have never used or applied for a credit card before so I'm hoping someone can shed a bit of light on my confusion :j

I am thinking of purchasing a new sofa using a credit card because of the protection it offers should anything go wrong. I have read that you are protected under Section75 for purchases on a single item over £100.

My confusion is...Do I have to use the card to make a deposit of over £100, or is it just the item that needs to be over £100 and I could use the card to make a deposit of say £90 but then would still be covered if anything goes wrong? I hope I am making sense .

Oh and could I claim if I am not happy with the sofa eg the fillings are awful etc but the company's guarantee wouldn't cover that or they refuse to help with it?

Thanks in advance!

    Yes.

Section 75 covers 'misrepresentation' and 'breach of contract'.
