Taking builders in for estimates

    How can you not see that this is stuff that should be done before agreeing a sale amount?!

    For now, the vendors told us that they wont be available tomorrow and asked if we can come in today.

    Thankfully the builder was free so we went today. Eveything seems to be fine - Apart from the fact that the electrics (fuse box?) seem to be very old and the house will need new re-wiring :( . Also the boiler is very old (they told us its 3yrs old) !!

    The agents stand point throughout our negotiions was that the house just needed a new kitchen, a new bathroom and a lick of paint!!
    There is more to life than increasing its speed.

    That's an utterly ridiculous, one-sided example. If I had two buyers offering similar amounts, and one put my back up I'd obviously prefer the other.

    My point remains that it is sensible (and kind!) for a buyer to exercise a certain amount of tact. That holds true even in a buyer's market. Selling a house is a business transaction even though it's usually carried out by amateurs, and personal relationships are very important, as anyone who has some experience of the commercial world knows.
    No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?
