Any help here would be great please,I'll stick to facts as I know this site is read by some of the people it concerns.
Basic facts.7 years continuous employment at current job, good salary and good bonus cheque annually but no chance of progression and boss extremely extremely hard to work for.
Applied for a senior role at a company owned by my current employers so "technically" rivals but would have been a straight transfer.Continuous service, additional holiday entitlement, paternity leave rights etc would carry over.
Carried out GI tests,PPI test, had formal interview.. successful. Received formal offer letter which was accepted verbally and via email.Salary confirmed, new start date given and the go-ahead given from senior staff to hand in resignation at current post.
Last day next fri, this week covered by holiday.Keys handed in and desk cleared. In meeting prior to leaving I explained very clearly why I was going and could no longer work there, words exchanged on both sides, relationship soured to say the least.
Receive texts now from current boss saying he is blocking my move as it is a rival firm in the same town, then from prospective new boss to say he has to withdraw his offer.I have had a call from up high saying I can return to my old post but after the exit interview that is very unappealing and .So there we are.
My wife is pregnant and we have other children, bills to pay and the prospect of no money coming in.No idea where to go from here.

I don't get where the "rivals" comes from if they are owen by the same company.
This looks like just a transfer that is now not going to happen.
at least you should still have a job even though it may be difficult.

Yes, I'm also confused - why is a sister company seen as a rival?
Basically, the situation could be a lot worse - you have your old job to go back to.
It was perhaps a bit naive to have been so blunt in the exit interview when transferring to an associated company.
I think you just have to bite the bullet at you have bills to pay.:hello:0 -
I can't advise as to whether it's legal or not, but practically speaking, your best option is to carry on with old job (as offered). I know it's hard, but think of it as a temporary situation whilst you search for alternative employment.
In future, be careful about the feedback you give on leaving a job, particularly if there are any connections to the current job.February wins: Theatre tickets0 -
Thanks..was expecting a told you so.I guess after 7 years of crap things just came to a head.
They're rivals as they are two companies trading under different names but one has been recently bought by my current company.
Surely being offered a job formally then it being revoked following acceptance, being told to give notice etc isn't right?0 -
Thankyou for the replies.Oh ad the harsh words were on both sides.0

Your wife is pregnant and you have a job, so that is good.
I understand your disappointment but if the second company has been bought out then I do think you are lucky to still be employed. Don't worry too much about the feedback you gave at the exit interview. The boss may not have liked it at the time but bosses are skilled at taking what they think is useful out of it and ignoring the rest. You probably feel worse, they probably have already moved on from it.:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. Because these weirdos are your true family.0 -
Thankyou. No he has already rung and is talking to me like utter rubbish so I know how things will be.0

to explain the rivals part..my current company bought another company. Both are owned by the same company but trade under seperate names. So being in the same town they are considered rivals as they tout for the same business.0

Try speaking to ACAS, but I can't see that anything other than politely carrying on with your old job is going to happen in the near future. Swallow your disappointment and don't add any more fuel to the flames. There may be a shake up in the near future, your boss's role may even change or something, unless he's head of everything. Hold tight and keep your head down. I am sure a positive will come out of it all at some point, it usually does.:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. Your union should be able to advise on the legal situation (if you aren't a member already, join now as you never know when you will need them again!)0
