Do 6" cube boxes fit the small parcel requirement ?

Does anyone know of these boxes fit withing the small parcel allowance, as all of the sizes stated are internal rather than external. Thanks,

The actually dimensions for the exemption are in cms and it is a little over 6 inches.

I have not seen any gauge at a PO yet, my mail centre does not have one. however, my worry would be that the one I have been issued for my 8 cms small parcel is actually slightly less than 800 mm.

  • Ours has a gauge, as the witch at the Post Office kindly demonstrated to me yesterday as she announced with glee that my item was literally 2mm too thick to go through it.

Small Parcel - Cubes: Customers sending small items which fall within a 160mm x 160mm x 160mm size limit, such as small cube shaped boxes, and weighing no more than 2kg, will be able to send their items using the Small Parcel rate.

When box manufacturers talk about dimensions they mean internal measurements, so unless it specifically says external and will fit new RM gauge you should be careful.

Thanks, this is why I started the thread, as I don't have any of these and the manufacturers only quote internal size, so I thought maybe someone has them to hand and can check. 6" is 152 mm internal, so depending on the thickness of the cardboard, they may *just* fit.

Very few of the post office staff appear to be aware of the 160 mm cube rule.

I have some 6 inch boxes I bought years ago and I have taken one to the post office and it is too big. Thank goodness I have far more 5 inch boxes that fit.

My 6 inch boxes when made up are below the 160mm size, but I still haven't found a PO to try them at.

They sell a pack of 5 on their website. They are very expensive but I'm thinking of ordering some anyway just so that I have them as a guide.

Just to update, I bought some 6" cube boxes off ebay, they do fit comfortably inside the 6" cube size. They are around 155mm all round.
