do you need to tell your contents insurance that your house is on the market and you are having viewings?
i remember seeing it as a tick box on a price comparison site so just wondering if you need to inform them as i suppose there is a higher risk of things going missing?
Thank you for your help.

We never did, I've never heard if this before. What would be the benefit of telling them?0

Errmmm...the thought never crossed my mind. If anything went missing I would be going back to my EA to rectify matters and compensate me for the loss and wouldn't even contemplate telling my insurance company.
I just take it that my EA has a "duty of care" to me to safeguard my belongings and assume that is enshrined in law as well.0 -
I suppose it would depend on the likelihood of you claiming from your insurance in the event that something went missing or was damaged while viewings were taking place. If you want to be absolutely sure your cover isn't invalid while the house is on the market you'd probably be better to check with your insurer.
If you're still living in the house while it's on the market, it's not going to be the same as having an empty property. And presumably you or an agent would be there while viewings were going on, so the risk of something being taken or damaged without someone noticing are fairly small. Just make sure nothing of any value is within easy access of snooping eyes or fingers.0
