Ebooks on tablet pc

I have a none branded tablet, which was bought for me at Christmas, which I believe is an Allwinner A10. I'm new to ebooks, but know about the need for Calibre on my pc to download/convert ebooks. My question is, what software do I use to actually read them on my tablet? And, if I bought a ebook from Amazon, can I convert it to read on a tablet rather than a kindle?

There is a Kindle app, that's what I use on my tablet for Amazon books.
I use FBReader app for Epub books and there is also Play Books app for books bought through the Google Play store.
You could just have 1 of those apps and then use Calibre to convert the books.0 -
What store does it use? You can get the kindle app through google play store and then buy kindle book or get for ones either using your laptop/PCM or use the website on your tablet.Have a Bsc Hons open degree from the Open University 2015 :j:D:eek::T0

Thanks for the info guys. I thought the kindle app was for the kindle, so I'll give it a try on the tablet. I use Google Play store for apps. So I take it the Play Books app is for Play books only? I'll try with some freebies first, if I can find some good ones. Don't want to pay for books until I know I can read them on my tablet.0

I've never looked at play books... I would assume they have freebies as iBook store on my iPad does.Have a Bsc Hons open degree from the Open University 2015 :j:D:eek::T0

I've used both the play books app and the kindle app on my Nexus tablet and found them both to be really good. Kindle tends to have a better range and more free books but it's worth comparing the prices with google play before you buy as I've found some popular titles to be cheaper on the Google Play and others are cheaper on the Kindle App. You may sometimes need to refresh the kindle spp for recently downloaded or purchased books to show up though but it's easy to do.Everyone has a dark side... apparently mine is called Harold?!? :huh:0

This website, shows you which free books are released each day. By signing up, they send the complete list to your email box. On the left you scroll down to the genre of your choosing.
Just in case anyone dosen't know, you need to have your Amazon account open whilst selecting books. If for example you have selected "westerns", about ten books per page are shown, you read a short summary and if you want it, click on download and within seconds, you have it.
You will find that each of those selected, appear in your email acount but you simply clear them out. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
