I have just received my fuel bill from EON i tried to cut my electricity useage by disconnecting 2 oil radiators, stopped using them altogether, which i was told would cut my elec, bill a lot, doesnt seem to have, also the reading on my gas is more than i have just checked on my meter myself
I had some debt from an earlier bill,as the doorstep salesman told me my monthly payment would be much lower than it turned out to be,which i was very annoyed about, he said £86 a month, EON asked me for £265 a month, i was shocked, now i am in debt again, because i cant pay so much a month, i am on age uk
Just wondered if anyone else had this problem

Never use a doorstep salesman, they are on commission and you encourage them to bamboozle vulnerable and older people. If everyone stopped encouraging them, they'd disappear and take their sharp practices with them. Run your actual usage figures in KWH not £££ through a price comparison site, see if your old tariff is cheaper or more expensive. If you have genuinely been missold then write a letter to EON's Complaints Team.
EON only need to read the meters every two years tho they may choose to do it more often. Anything in between can either be an estimated reading or a customer reading, you are responsible for controlling your own use and keeping on top of your payments. Don't forget it's been a long cold winter which no salesman could have foreseen.
£265 sounds a lot, is your property large or poorly insulated or are you keeping the house heated 24/7? Can you use an electric underblanket with an overnight setting on your bed and electric overblanket on your sofa (cost literally pennies to run) or do you have health problems that means this is unsafe?Declutterbug-in-progress.⭐️⭐️⭐️ ⭐️⭐️0 -
Hi valeriej43
I’m sorry if we’ve used wrong or estimated meter readings on your last bill. If you let us have the correct readings, we’ll be happy to re-bill your account to these.
It’s great you’re looking at ways to save on your energy usage. We’ve a specialist team of Energy Efficiency advisors who’ll be able to suggest ways you may be able to do this.
I’d recommend talking to this team. Ask them for a copy of a booklet called ‘100 ways to save money by saving energy.’ It’s free and contains lots of useful tips to help you save.
Check out our website, too. Particularly, the ‘Interactive House’ and ‘Energy Menu.’ More good tips here.
Your monthly payments need to cover the ongoing usage plus an amount to clear the debt you mention. We’ll be happy to look at spreading this debt over a more manageable period if you wish.

You have probably read the recent news that Ofgem have hit Southern Electric with a BIG fine for their door-step sales people who lied or hid the truth about costs when switching to SE.
SE were the first of the Big 6 who's sales tactics Ofgem are investigating and will have Eon on their list
WRITE to Eon now heading the letter Complaint, setting out the cost of the tariff you were on, v the cost of the Eon tariff you were sold, asking for recompense
Whilst Ofgem do not deal directly with customer complaints, send a copy of your letter to them and mark your Eon letter "cc Ofgem"0
