Starlings in roof

I could have sympathy with them if they weren't so obnoxious in character. Always remind me of a pack of hyenas. Proper bully boys.
Hard to believe that they are under threat, they were once so plentiful, infact plaque proportions of them.
I have noticed that the high level of horse ownership in our area means that we have large numbers, but the stable blocks stop them trying to gain access to homes.I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.
Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)
Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed0 -
They start nesting, because they wish to breed, so even if the nest is not active yet, if they are not causing much damage why not let them? They are on the red list, which means they are globally threatened. If you do wish to block access to the roof, maybe you could provide a nesting box instead: http://www.rspb.org.uk/advice/expert/previous/starlingsinroof.aspx. It's not easy for birds to find a secure nest in an urban environment.
They may be "globally threatened" but they are certainly found in healthy numbers in the UK, and they can be a right pain in the neck.
As I type this, I can hear them above me in the loft - no idea how they got in this time.:mad:0 -
I think we've got starlings nesting in our guttering, but we're due to have the soffits/fascias/guttering replaced next week. Does their presense mean the installers will tell us we'll have to wait until they've gone?0
