If you havent booked yet can I suggest Malcesine on Lake Garda, it's beautiful and with it being right on the lake the ferry services can take you all over the Lake, smaller boats can take you to Limone which is also a beautiful area. I went last June and not only was the area stunning but the weather was too, reached 40 degrees one day. Looking at May averages it could be between 12-22 degrees, might be a case of booking and hoping unfortunately. I'm not sure about a tourist season I cant see anything online maybe someone else can comment on that to help.

P.s If you're interested I booked with Thomson Lakes/Crystal holidays which included flights 4 nights half board hotel plus transfers for about £250 each it was an excellent deal, looking to return this year!

    I've been Money Tipped!
Another vote for Malcesine. We went last September and can honestly say it's one of the best places we've ever been to. We also went through Thomson Lakes and Mountains and stayed at the Hotel Capri which we couldn't fault. May in the mediterranean can be mixed, so it's difficult to predict, and the Italian lakes are further north than other popular places, so it's a case of taking a chance and knowing that you'll get plenty of decent weather. We had some spectacular thunderstorms in September!

x3, Lake Garda is stunning, and Monte Baldo just above Malcesine is a big paragliding place - if you're feeling really adventurous you can do a tandem one (no previous experience needed), it was amazing and the views are spectacular. Quite expensive but worth every EUR (think it was 100EUR).
  • We went to Lake Garda for the first time last May and it was lovely. We went on a Thomsons Lakes and Mountains package and stayed in Bardalino which was very pleasant and gave a flavour of the area. If we go to Lake Garda again we would try another resort on a different part of the Lake. The weather was mixed we had a two very hot days two days of rain (one very heavy and the other drizzle) and the remaining 3 days were fair. Temperatures can range from 12 degrees up to late 20's so it is pot luck. You need to take clothes for every occasion especially allowing something warm for the evenings. In our opinion probably early June would be the best time to go. The season in May is geting up and running but it is not in full swing.

I had asked on another thread about the weather in lake garda in may.
You've just confirmed what i thought- , a bit of a mixture of everything, it seems, but more than likely some nice sunny days.:)

We've only ever been in April or May and the weather has always been great, warm, but be aware it can get a bit chilly out on the lake, or up Monte Baldo, or in the evenings so perhaps take a fleece or light jacket.

We loved Garda, the weather in May will be warm but changeable. We stayed in Salo at a lovely, but inexpensive family run hotel. We would definitely return.

We also visited most of the towns on the lake (by car) and I would agree that Malcesine is lovely, as is Limone.

Thank all. We have decided to book for next may with thomson el fresco using tesco vouchers to pay for a week:)
We went to holland last may and going again next month. While i love holland , fancy a change for next year, and a bit of sunshine.
Lake garda seems to tick all of our boxes:D

We have just reurned from a weeks holiday in Lake Garda. The weather was very disappointing. Two days of continual very heavy rain, three days of fairly regular showers and two fine and partially sunny days. We loved Lake Garda and would return but not in the month of May again. We understand June is a very good month and weather then is more reliable.

It's c*ap across much of Europe at present, colder and wetter than normal.
