Tablet for just viewing pictures

I'm looking to buy a tablet for a 74 year old who just wants something to look at pictures. Has anyone got any recommendations? I will be transferring all the family albums in separate folders to the device. The user will not have wifi/Internet at home and will not need 3G.

  • Would they be better off with a digital photo frame as they won't have wifi/internet or 3G. These might be cheaper. Or do you have an ulterior motive and want to get them connected to the web eventually?
I need to make a new list for 2014
think of something to put on it!:rotfl:
Try harder for 2014 as I never managed it in 2012 or 2013

^ The prices have come down dramatically, and the frames itself have improved a lot. Whilst you look at dearer prices in likes of boots, you can get the pretty cheap online, plus the sd card capability have increased as well too, so bigger card sizes supported. He wouldn't need to run it all the time, could be just picked up and used, then turned off, or could be left running as they are suited to this.
http://www.tesco.com/direct/hp-df730p3-7-inch-digital-photo-frame/524-3093.prd?pageLevel=&skuId=524-3093 £25 for one that supports a number of card formats, with remote. BUT doesn't support movies. Milage varies with price, and ones that support movies can be found for more. :D

The only reason I'd say do a tablet over a frame would be if you think the person would benefit from pinch and zoom actions, ie being able to make the photo larger, and move it around. However if it's for vision, you need to look at a pretty reasonable tablet to get good screen size/footprint, and resolution, which is kind of wasteful if it really really would only be used for pictures.

They want to be able to browse the images rather than see them rotate around, I think, I will ask though as that is a good point.
