Can anyone recommend a fax machine for use in UK?

Hi,
I need a fax machine for home use, but nothing too advanced, preferably under £100.
Which would be better: a separate stand-alone fax machine or a stand-alone multi-function printer (with fax)?
I'm concerned about the toner or ink cartridge costs.
Cheers.
I'm grateful for any help.

How many incoming/outgoing faxes per month ?0

thought about using a computer? It's what we do and means we can screen out (rather than printing) all the junk0

There would only ever be a handful of faxes per year, so not used too much and it has to be some kind of stand-alone unit, based in the living room or back room.0

Any old fax machine using thermal paper off ebay then.
You might want to consider how the machine is to distinguish between incoming phone calls and incoming fax calls.
Personally I always liked Sharp faxes and appropriate models play nicely with answering machines.A kind word lasts a minute, a skelped erse is sair for a day.0 -
I've just told my father this - to get an old fax machine, like he used to use in his office - but he's not keen. He's seen MFPs in Currys with fax capabilities and wants something a bit more up to date.
Do MFPs with fax have the same features as a stand-alone dedicated fax machine? I haven't ever had a fax machine, so this is sort of new to me.
We have normal cordless phones with answer machine capabilities and don't want to have to install another line.
Thanks.0 -
We have two all-in-one inkjets at the office.
One is used frequently as a fax machine to send/receive faxes and as far as I know it has all the same functions as a 'normal' fax machine. Load paper on the sheet feeder (multiple sheets if required), enter fax number, press Send, walk away.
It is connected to a dedicated fax line though which makes things far easier. If you asre only sending faxes then its no problem, just attach it to the phone line.
Ink is certainly a consideration if you are doing plenty of printing but probably not such a consideration in the context of a fax machine for a handful of faxes per year.
The other all-in-one typically is used as a scanner to scan documents to PDF on the PC and then sent by email rather than faxing.0
