I wanna...start my own business

Options
I have found an excellent business opportunity.

Where ther hell do I start!

I've never ever run my own business before (though I'm savvy and have my head screwed on - I think!) but have found a fantastic opportunity.

Can anyone recommend any books, websites, or what to do first?

Thanks

Cattxx

    Hi Skint_Catt,

You should get more help with this on the Small Business board so I'll move your thread over there.

Pop into Lloyds and ask if they still do the small business guide book written by Sara Williams, see if you can blag one out of them if they do, its a most excellent book, 400+ pages covering a lot of the important things about setting up in business. I read the thing cover to cover about three years ago and its good.

Also try business link, this is gov' sponsored business advice centres, but be prepared for them to be about as useful as a chocolate kettle though they may have changed in 4 years.

    Oh, and good luck.

I've found an area that doesn't have video or rental service within 26 miles. I know a lot of people do the online now, but I still think it would be a good service in a busy town surrounded by plenty of villages.

independant rental stores seem to be a dying breed. I for one rarely rent now i've access to downloading, plus there's nothing to stop a local mini market from stocking a few titles and having an adverse effect on ur business.
Maybe you could manage a dvd rental operation for a number of mini markets, independant newsagents or grocers, thus widening your market place and lowering overheads e.g. retail overheads and a certain element of time cost

Before going any further, do lots of research into whether your proposed business is really viable. Do surveys, costings etc..etc.

Chances are it is a go-er but it's always a good idea to review the situation before spending substantial amounts of money.

    In other words: Plan.
