Paint peeling on cooker leading to rust

Options
Hi

I have a Beko cooker indoors, I have only had it a couple of years and the paints started peeling which has caused a lot of rust where it has peeled.

I have contacted Beko about this problem and the answer I have been given is that I must have used an inappropriate cleaning substance on it.

I have only ever used normal household oven cleaners on it, the like you buy from any supermarket.

I was going to contact the store I bought it from, but unfortunatley I purchased it from Comets.

Does anyone know what I should do next? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Your next step will be to have to pay for an expert to analyse the paint finish and determine if its inherently faulty.

Even then you would have to prove that you hadn't used a cleaner which wasn't suitable.

I think you are going to have to write this off and in future when you see the first sign of paint damage then apply an appropriate enamel paint to touch it up. Normally there is a small nick in the paintwork which then spreads. A lot of rust normally doesn't just appear at once.

That course of action is for when you're taking action against the retailer - Comet. Who are gone...

Beko don't have to do anything.

Is it the enamel paint? I've seen small tins of it to buy somewhere. Might at least stop it getting any worse.

Where is the paint peeling, inside or outside? What do you mean normal oven cleaners? What product does Beko recommend you clean with?

Oven cleaners are *usually* for cleaning the INSIDE of the oven.

Where is the damage? Internal or external?

I know it's an old thread but I've got this problem with my Beko cooker and have just been Googling about it and one of the first places it led me was here.
White paint/enamel has come off my cooker - probably within the first year of owning it and it's a few years old now.
There's a little flat ledge that projects from the front of the cooker - it's between the control knobs and the grill door - and half of the top of this is now mostly rust where the surface has come off.
It's the half right in nearest the cooker, not the bit right at the front of the ledge and since I only really heavily clean the glass hob bit of the cooker (with an appropriate cleaner), I'm assuming that this has been caused by heat coming up from the oven, which is below the grill (we've hardly ever used the grill).
Surely a design fault as cooker surfaces should be able to withstand the heat of normal usage?
Thanks to whoever posted the link to the other thread above, I'll have a look at that too.
I'm clearly not the only person who's had this particular problem with a Beko cooker - c'mon Beko, sort it out at the manufacturing stage!

Possible it may have been damaged and repainted. New paint not as good as the factory finish and chipped off.

    Where is it rusting?

  • I have exactly as previously described. Before it was a year old a small ledge, that juts out between the dials and top of oven door, had begun to rust. There was also rusting just above the dials and on the hot plates. My cooker is also a Beko.

I was looking for a way to cover the rust, the oven looks so scruffy now. I am hoping there is some type of heat resistant paint I can use on it.

Anyone else had to deal with this?

  • I am also having this problem with my Beko cooker. I have only had it a year an I first noticed the problem within months of getting it. It was a small area at the back of the oven (on the job where the steam comes out). I thought it was grease so tried to wipe it with a damp cloth and a bit of supermarket kitchen cleaner but it wouldn't come off. It was then I noticed the paint peeling off from underneath where the steam comes out. Now it is bubbling and peeling all the way around the edge of the hob and rusting. I only ever use a supermarket kitchen cleaner and this is suitable though it does say on the bottle not to have prolonged contact with painted or wooden surfaces. I literally spray a small amount wipe with cloth thn buff with towel so the surface is never wet. I've alway used the same products on my old cooker (can't remember brand but not a Beko) and not one rust mark or peeling paint. I'm stilling paying off each week for this cooker but I'm going to phone up where I got it from on Monday to see what they suggest.
