I work in a branch of Sainsbury's and occasionally if a person is buying a load of flour and if the person looks friendly I'll ask what they are making...occasionally I'll get someone who buys the most basic ingredients (ie the cheapest on the shelf) and is making cakes and pastries to sell on.
I have found from my own attempts at home that the success of the end product is related to the recipe used, technique, cooking time/temperature, and personal taste, as well as the actual ingredients used.0 -
Value SR flour seems to do the trick for me!Resolution:

Value here too. I use Morrisons own strong flour for bread and the bettabuy for everything else.
(When I say 'I', DH is the bread and muffin maker, I do the rest!)May all your dots fall silently to the ground.0 -
It's a bit of a rule in our house that we try homebrand/value first before anything else. And I haven't found anything yet I wouldn't pick the value version of.
Flour is a simple choice for me, it's value all the way. Most things that are 1 ingredient are a no brainer for me - butter, flour etc.Softstuff- Officially better than 0070 -
I buy value but occasionnaly get Mc Dougalls when it's on offer and I must admit it's very *sensual* to bake with. Very silky."Finish each day And be done with it.
You have done what you could.
Some blunders and Absurdities have crept in.
Forget them as soon as you can."

Value SR and Plain for me too - haven't noticed any difference between the cheaper stuff and the branded ones, except the price of course!0

Yup, I agree with Softstuff, the value flour is fine. They also do value dried currants and dried mixed fruit in Sainsbury's and they are fine too,
