New pc with Windows XP pre-loaded. Advice required.

My Mum's computer has just gone bang and we need to purchase a new one. Looking for entry level PC (around £400) tower only BUT with Windows XP Home pre-loaded (not Vista or MCE etc)

Does anyone know of any shops, sites or companies still selling new PC's, around this price, with XP? A quick turnaround would also be useful!!!

Many thanks

£400 pounds? You could take mine... But, that's another story.

For £400, youo can purchase a very very very good PC, and get Windows XP Professional installed.

My first recommendation would be Dell, as they have quick delivery, and good support, in case your mum needs it.

    Hope that helps!

PS: Message me if you want to purchase my computer :-)

Third Spec down. Change Warranty to One year. also you may want to upgrade the Graphics card but its around £300 odd quid for a very good spec.

Also it comes with Windows XP proffesional as you have 5 years support as on XP home Microsoft are stopping support in around 1 1/2 years.

and if you want you can spec it up to £400.

What's wrong with the old one? Bang? PSU?

Or mce for that matter? I have pro on my desktop and mce on the lappy, can't tell the difference as I never go into the media center bits.

Thats great guys - thanks, I will try those links. When I said 'entry level' I didn't really mean 'entry level' if you know what I mean??? (DOH) Really looking for mid, around £400 mark. Mums PC was her first, wants XP because she has just got used to that and that took her 2 years (she flaps!) motherboard went bang, everything on board cheap computer so not much worth salvaging (possibly DVD, HDD etc) so not worth getting repaired - was slow anyway!

Once she gets her new one (which she really wants now) I will probably replace the mobo and give to one of the kids... Oh the pressure!!!!

Fantastic advice - just got her a dell dimension E520 with XP, Core 2 Duo, 2gb ram, 250 hdd with floppy, modem, upgraded graphics and a 19" monitor (apparently size matters ;-)) for £405... she is well chuffed!

Problem is she wants it now.... arghhhhhhhhhh....

    Cheers again guys
