Halifax- an unwielding monolith

This board is notorious for being unsympathetic to people who make a mistake, especially if they then blame the bank. I'm not saying that's a good thing, it's not. It's just the way it is.
I have stoozed many 0% deals in my time and I don't recall ever being told my 0% period was about to expire. Halifax have gone further than most in contacting you.
Martin has a "tart alert" which will remind you when it is time to pay up. Don't wait for the banks to do it.
I agree about some of the contributors on here.
However, in case my point was missed........
The only mistake would have been in accepting their 0% offer within a matter of a few days before it shot up to 21.95%. This was not the case as I had already settled my balance by then, and was not interested in 0% for two weeks and then such a high rate. I still think this scurrilous behaviour by a so-called reputable company. If this is not a deliberate tactic, then they should takes steps to be more transparent and avoid drawing customers, by default, into high rates.Peter0 -

All the banksters ever want is your hard earned cash. If you don't want to play their game and who in their right mind does try this:
Cancel your credit card debt with no repercussions, black marks or entries in your credit report by sending a single letter to the bank. In it you write this, and this only works for credit cards.
"Please send me a copy of the contract which states that I owe you money. I will be happy to pay any financial obligation I might lawfully owe as soon as I receive this document."
Now keep your wits together and wait what happens. There is no legal contract, you are in the right and the bank will notice this. I have already done this successfully and it was a couple of thousand pounds.
Don't answer phone calls. Tell then they can write to you and you're waiting for the copy of the contract.
The bank can do absolutely nothing, because a lawful contract doesn't exist.
This is why the bank "lends" you money but only wants you to keep paying the interest. They have not lost a penny but are making a profit on the interest.
If you want to know more about this, ask me. And I now open the floodgates for all those that believe I'm talking to aliens through my teeth. :-)
