1 bedroom flat
Options
I know there has been other posts about how much electric only 1 bedroom flat be using but Im still baffled about the amount im currently being charged.
We live in a 1 bedroom flat and are out most of the time,
No dishwasher, No heating, We do however use a computer and the tumble dryer a bit but not constantly. The water comes on at night.
We are on ecomony 7 and Scotish power have now put our bill up from 29/03/03 - 04/04/13 £97 to £125!
I have asked a few friends what they pay and they had said £45 and £55.
I have noticed and booked a engineer in to change the clock on the meter as its saying a completly wrong time on but scotish power havnt been bothered to check when they do there checks.
So for last week usage :
Daytime 173
Night time 51
Does this need to be the other way around?
Could someone else be using out electric? haha
How possible is it to get the money back from miss paying of electric?

No heating? Brrrr ......
Your meter should indicate which registery is currently recording usage.0 -
Seems a bit high , I have a 1 bedroom flat and I only pay £30 pm and I'm on a pre payment meter with British Gas, I was with scottish power and found out I was getting ripped off with high service charges so I swapped over.0
-
Ive checked it and says im on day charge but it says 9am i think! not sure if its 24 hour, will check later to see if it goes to 24 hour, Its madness they think we use that much electric, We dont use heaters to save electric and I believe in if you get cold put on a jumper not the heater but its like whats point haha0

If that's what the meter records, then that is probably what you are consuming
If you think the meter is wrong, be prepared to pay the supplier about £70 to have it checked ... and when you are proved right, they will refund your money and rebill you accordingly for past usage :beer:0 -

SP only need to read the meter every two years, it's your responsibility to check it regularly in between. Not even sure those who check the readings actually check the settings, not sure they are even engineers. E7 is rarely the best tariff for anyone who does not have or use storage heaters since day rate is pricey and night rate cheap.
What are you using as regards hot water - power shower? If so what KWH/ how often/ how long are the showers? Have you got an immersion heater than is on all the time (broken timer or thermostat if not human error)? What temperature are you doing laundry at and how often? Have you got the washing machine and tumble dryer set to come on at night (even if the clock on the meter is wrong)?
Compare your actual use in KWH to your friends or neighbours actual use in KWH, not direct debit in £££ since they might be on a different tariff or not reading their meter regularly so massively over or under paying. Have you run your figures (actual in KWH) through a price comparison site?Declutterbug-in-progress.⭐️⭐️⭐️ ⭐️⭐️0 -
Do you have gas too? If you're just on electric that won't be that high. I live in a two bed all electric flat and our last bill was about £300 for the quarter and we're out pretty much all day.0

Maybe you are on Economy 10 or something,
which gives you low-ish rate during a few hours of the day for top up.
If you are simply getting 7 hours time shifted by a few hours, it just means you can do your tumble drying at a more convenient time, so why complain? Daylight Saving Time means you are already one hour out.
As far as I'm concerned, you should go on a single rate tariff.
Get the meter changed if you have to. A lot easier for switching purposes.
Hmm, that's an idea, re-usable hymen for cultures where girls have to be virgins when they marry.0 -
Yep just all electric,
Economy 7 and the water comes on to heat about 10pm.
The timer is completly out but no one else's in the complex is wrong which means its now 9:30so pm but it thinks its 2:30pm, so im getting charged completly wrong. so frustrating paying for it and no probobly wont get the money back seen so its a big company.0 -

- the first job is to get the supplier to check your meter
- there is a penalty £60-80 [ish] if its found to be in good order
- most of the meters since the early 80's are teleswitched, your must be old/mechanical
- £45 and £55 per month averaged over 12 months is about the very low end of correct
- all electric £45 and £55 in the winter months at this time of the year is almost unbelievably low @ £10 a week !Disclaimer : Everything I write on this forum is my opinion.
