Unblocking a drain

Hi All,

Does anyone know how much it would cost to unblock a blocked drain?
Mine seems to be sealed up - looks like someone has thrown concrete down it, and it's set!! and the water from the sink and washer/dryer goes down the pipes and onto the garden!!!

If its only sink water and washing machine water its likely to be a reletively easy DIY unblock.

The cement is probabily scum from the washing machine.

When you say its sealed up, how do you mean? Does it have a lid on the drain? How can you see inside it to see the "concrete"??

Ta 4 reply - I had a poke around and it's definately concrete that has set!! There's no lid on the drain - and the water doesnt go down the drain - as there's hole to go down - but flows into the garden!!
Short of sticking a ton of dynamite on it - am not sure what to do!!

Try your local Councils Environmental Health office for advice 1st. Some parts of the drainage system are definately the home owners responsibility but its worth checking for any help/advice before you contact a plumber.
Find out who you are and do that on purpose (thanks to Owain Wyn Jones quoting Dolly Parton)
