How about plant food, either liquid or pellets, water holding crystals. Seed trays, or a mini propagator saw a thread on here a couple of days ago about cheap ones at wilkinsons.

  • Hi there,

How about a bug box/house? I got one for my MIL for her birthday and she was really impressed - you can get different types/sizes.

If they are trying to grow their own produce then it might be an idea to get a ladybird one as they eat aphids.

It will fill a large space in your basket too!

The one I got for MIL was from ebay. It was for ladybirds, butterflies and mason bees - £20 plus P&P I think was what they were selling the boxes for on their own. You can get cheaper ones - however they can be made of pine which will not stand up to the outdoor weather for very long so an oak one I think is worth the bit extra.

Well done on being so organised!

Do you have a PAST TIMES shop near you? if so they have some beautifull gardening bits... my mum has a wee wateringcan that is only about 5" tall and decorated with flowers - but it is a radio...she loves it out in the garden with a bit of music to keep her company and think it was about £6.99

Just seen there is Gardening World magazine on offer here: 3 for £1 or 5 for £5. Would that go in your basket?

Have been asked to make a gardening hamper for my mum to give to her mum and partner (iykwim!) for xmas!

I'm not a gardener myself but have gotten a lot of good ideas from this thread - but what could I put it in? Any ideas? If you have seen anything suitable could you post a link so I can have a look?

    Thanks in advance!

A trug of some sort? They can be dear to buy, but I got a lovely 50's one off ebay for half the price of a new one.
This sort of thing, although this one may be a bit small.

I'm doing one for my brother and his girlfriend, and theirs will be going in one of those plastic tubs with the handles...about £2 in Asda at the moment and they can use it in the garden and as storage. I will pack it out rather than try and fill it as they are deep!!

  • Depends on your budget but could it fit in a flowerpot/planter of some sort? Of course it depends on how strong you are also but you can get some quite pretty smaller ones for inside plants etc
