Tesco credit card problem

in Credit cards
Hello,
Last week I went through the process of applying for a Tesco credit card online - my application was accepted and I was offerred the card. I chose not to take it then and there as I was at work and didn't have time to read all the terms & conditions (I also wanted to see what the APR would be).
I decided I wanted the card and went through the application again but was rejected as it said I had already applied for a card within the last six months.
Is this normal? Even if I didn't take the card I'll have to wait six months before I can apply again?
I was thinking of applying for another card from a different bank but am wary that this Tesco card will come up in my credit check.
Any advice appreciated. Thanks.

Yes you will technically have to wait six months as the software they use will check if you have made an application in the last six months, which you have.
Although, I would call them and plead your case and ask if you can have the deal you were initially offered at the first application.
How far through the second application did you get? Do you think a second credit search was carried out?
It'll be best for you to check how many searches are on your credit file before you apply for credit elsewhere, if Tesco did two searches ask if they will remove the second one.0 -
Thanks for the information.
Do I need to check with Tesco if they did a second search or can I get that information elsewhere? I went right to the end of the application and clicked 'apply'. I assume they check if you've already applied / have a card before running a full search but there's no way to be cetain.
If they did, will that appear as a rejection in future credit checks?0 -
Whether you were accepted or rejected doesn't appear. Future lenders will only see that there has been a search of your credit file.
I think speaking to Tesco would be best, seeing as you actually want one of their cards. Ask to have the card, and then ask how many searches have been performed.
When I applied for the Tesco card they only searched Experian, so it's worth checking with them.0 -
You should have just accepted it and read the T&Cs later, I believe you have 14 days cooling off period anyway0

Once you get to the accepted stage the credit check has already been carried out and will be on your credit report as a full credit check. The second time its likely that the application was rejected before checking your report as it would see the previous application.
Other creditors may reject your application now as they'll see the credit check, but if your credit rating is good, they'll not care about it too much.
If you want the Tesco card you need to ring them up and explain to them what has happened.0
