Vacuum cleaner failed after 9months

Hi,

I purchased a vacuum cleaner from VIVO electronic_world of eBay in July last year. The vacuum cleaner has now failed and having contacted the supplier I have received no response, seems he is still selling vacuum cleaner but if they go faulty he doesn't want to know.

I have contacted paypal but they say if its after 45days they can't do anything.

I thought all new items were covered by the sale of goods act and that if the supplier won't do anything then paypal should get the money back.

Anybody offer any advise.
Thanks
F

    Have you contacted the manufacturer?

I have no idea who the manufacturer is, probably a company in deepest darkest China and I'm pretty sure they wouldn't be interested but thanks for the idea.

Did it come with any warranty though? If this is a china hoover i doubt they even offer one.

After 28 days it's usually a manufacturer's guarantee that would help. Did the retailer offer any guarantee?
Legally it's an odd area as there isn't a fixed term that anything should work for. It can depend on price paid, so the higher the value the longer it should last, ie if it cost £5 it's not likely to last 9 months, if it cost £500 it probably should.

Your rights depend on the item, the retailer and manufacturer's terms and your usage.

As I mentioned earlier, I have contacted the company I purchased the vacuum cleaner from, VIVO electronic_world, you can find them on eBay.

I'm happy to say that although it took a little while and a number of emails going back and forth they eventually gave me a full refund. :T
In my book that makes them a good eBay company to deal with.

Good result. Did you have to send it back, or can you get it repaired at your own cost and then you will have a vacumn cleaner for the cost of just the repair. It could be something simple like a loose wire.
