Where do you start when a marriage breaks up

Any advice on how to sort finances after a break up?
We don't have a joint account, yeah strange after being married for 15 years but it was the way he liked things, separate!
Basically the house is rented, I am self employed and he wasn't working so got some tax credits, have rang them and new claim is in, but it's things like mobiles and debt, in Nov he took out a new car on a pcp? plan, it's in his name, but somehow my mobile contract and the kids 2 are in his name and his which is new is in my name grrr
We have 2 credit cards each with about £2500 on and he has a very account of about £1200, he is a drummer and my credit card paid for his last kit and a deposit on a family holiday, he has took anything valuable from the home, just all seems such a mess and I can't say my head or heart is fully up to sorting it but friends keep saying I need too ASAP

Sorry to hear of your troubles. I would recommend trying to talk things through with him. The more amicably you can split the better, especially as there are children involved. As I am sure you are aware they need stability and calm right now.
If you can come to an agreement between yourselves, before contacting a solicitor to get it all tied up legally, then this will save you alot in costs. It is very hard to seperate the emotional and financial areas of splitting from a long time partner. Been there and gone through it. Hope you can sort it out smoothly OP.The best day of your life is the one on which you decide your life is your own, no apologies or excuses. No one to lean on, rely on or blame. I'm still not ready to speak to him, without getting upset anyway, some of my wages went in to his account on Tuesday so he has about £1700 to ensure he can make payments this month so I don't have to speak to him, someone else is involved so as you can imagine I am finding it quite difficult not to just say you made your bed now lie in it sort of thing or without getting angry about working my backside off for the last 8 years for him to persue his music!Thrifty Gifty Money Making =£280 Sealed pot challenge 1192 Toluna = 77339 Bingoport = £10 redeemed + 33470

What you are going through must be awful. If you dont feel able to talk things through, when you are ready you need to seek the assistance of a solicitor and get them to communicate with him. Make sure you lean on your family and friends and take all their support to see you through this rough time. The best day of your life is the one on which you decide your life is your own, no apologies or excuses.
