Yes I am lucky my husband is a treasure so I am no longer a manhater myself.

Although strangely my eldest son by my ex husband has turned 17 today and we received a letter in the post saying his maintainence has now ceased today! Unfortunately he ommitted to send a birthday card or present even tho he must have had to go to post box to post letter about end of maintenance. What a nasty man.

The person paying off the debts with benefits should nt be able to afford too its as simple as that. If they can the benefit system is paying out too much. As other posters I was never in this position - I only ever had enough for bills and food couldnt afford to run up debts let alone pay them off.

They aren't getting more money because they are paying off debt, they are choosing to pay off debt with the money they receive. The situation is not a usual one, as one of them is currently receiving a (legitimate) 'source of income' which I don't think is taken into account as income by tax credits (or it might be only a small amount is), so they are receiving tax credits based on only 1 income but currently have this other source of income too. As I said earlier this extra 'source of income' is due to stop soon.

The people concerned are not doing anything wrong, if you believe that the system is flawed, then the correct thing to do is to lobby your MP for a change in the law.

Or has outstanding council tax to pay, as if like many ex's who do a disappearing act, if they cant be traced and you shared the house together and of course you can be contacted, you WILL be paying his.

I know this as a judge told me if i didnt pay i would go to prison there and then (obviously after protest for months). I politely reminded him that demanding money with menaces is what he himself has jailed people for and so therefore is a hypocrite!! Oh and i quickly paid.....very p***ed off!!
