New users may not be aware but established twitter users who follow large numbers of tweeters usually hit a wall when they attempt to add follow number 2001.

So, how do you get past the twitter follower limit of 2,000? Well the only way to do it is to grow your own follower list.

You don’t however have to have 2,000 followers; the magic number is in fact 1,819. Twitter lets you follow the number of followers that you have plus 10%. When you hit the figure of 1819 you are allowed to follow that number plus a further 182. Your follower limit is now 2001 and you have broken through the barrier, just.

I'm forever un following someone to follow someone else gets annoying really quickly.

I start with 'Not Following Me' and flip the order so the ones I've followed longest are first, then clear them in blocks of 20 a time.

Can I ask where you got the 1819 figure from? I follow 2001 accounts but only have 431 followers

Twitter allows you to follow 10% more of your followers total or 2,000 (or 2,001, depending on how Twitter is feeling), whichever is greater.

So if you have 1,819 followers, plus 10% of that (182) that would equal 2,001. If you had 100 followers, plus 10%, because 110 is lower than 2,000/1, twitter will allow you to still follow 2,000/1

However if you had 2,000 followers, plus 10% (200) would mean you could follow 2,200 people.

so 1,819 is the number where your glass ceiling can begin to rise, if that makes sense?

I meant where you'd worked it out from lol sorry I'm typing one handed as got baby laid on me.

I know twitter say they don't publish their follower:following ratio so I wondered if you had researched it

    sorry x

    Ah...makes sense hehe

I was just interested as to when the ceiling raised, so I did a spot of googling. The precise number comes from a couple of sources, but it appears there is a lot of agreement with the 10% rule, probably from people who figured it out from where their own ceilings were raised.

How do you flip the order or do you use an app?

That is interesting. I have 1302 followers, so only need another 500 or so to be able to follow more people. Most of the people that follow me, I have no idea why they follow. But if they want my constant competition tweets on their feed, that is fine by me.

I use tweepi to unfollow. It lists the ones I followed most recently first. They are listed in 100 pages of 20 per page. I tend to find that the last 15 or so pages are people that I want to carry on following, either because they are other compers, or because they host regular competitions. Therefore, if I skip to about page 80, I get to people I followed about 3 months ago, so unless it is someone that I know I want to still follow, I unfollow them. I usually unfollow about 70 or 80 people at a time.
