OU Student and Kick Up Bum needed

Any tips??

I really need a kick up the backside. I have already substituted TMA02, and working on TMA03 - but behind with that too!

Okay - my excuse is I have 5 kids at home and one of those is a 10 week old baby so I have a lot on my plate anyway.

Currently studying DSE212 (60 points) and although its not difficult, you do need thinking time to absorb the different concepts. Time is one thing I am struggling with!

I am trying to focus on what I have achieved rather than what I haven't done, but its not easy!

Also, my family, including OH, think that
a) its not a problem as its home study, so its not "real" education so therefore can't be that hard!
b) waste of time
c) Totally unsupportive. Swines. I have to help with their homework/problems etc.
d) Culminates in that they do not understand how important this is to me.

Any tips would be appreciated. Am feeling very down with it all and about to jack it in.

    Poor you!

Would any documentation on the value of an OU degree, and the high standards required, help your family understand the value and difficulty of your course? I work for Exeter University and can write on our letterhead, and would be happy to send you a note about how highly we regard OU qualifications.

And I must say, tackling these courses when you have tiny baby is very ambitious. Well done for getting one of your TMAs done. But you might want to ask your tutor if you could postpone your work for a year.

When are you trying to get your studying done? I have found that if I wait until my youngest has gone to bed and get my books out then, by the time I have planned what I am going to do its time for my 5 year old to go to bed. A short story later and the evening is mine to crack on. Generally start at 7.30/8pm depending on the mood I am in tend to finish at about 10pm. Got carried away the other evening, was enjoying it so much was 12.30 before I realised!!!

I don't really know what you can do about your oh. Is this course going towards a degree? Could you not explain that a degree is a degree, doesn't matter if you study at home or elsewhere.

Good luck with it.. don't jack it in - such a waste.

You can do it. You just have to try and get your motivation back. I know it's harder said than done (just look at me procrastinating on here instead of revising for my finals that start in just over a week!).

Ignore your OH and family - you're doing it for you not them!
