When to fit carpets

Apologies for what might seem a rather silly question. I'm a bit new to all this house buying/owning business.
I'm in the process of buying my first house, hopefully exchanging this week/next week. The house is lovely except for one thing, the carpet in the lounge/dining room, hall, stairs and landing is (whilst very good quality) frankly hideous.
It will be replaced but I was wondering whether it is better to do this immediately (I won't be moving in the day of completion as I'll have a couple of weeks left on my rental property) or later, in a way I would like to live in the place a little while before deciding colour schemes etc but will it be a nightmare trying to fit carpets once all my furniture is in place?
Thanks

Personal choice. Up to you.
I'm my experience anything done in a rush when moving to a new property is eventually regretted. Better to get to know your new place and think through design options as you go along.0 -

Depends really, by the time I bought my house I had already thought through everything and knew exactly what I wanted. I completed all the work to the major living areas before I moved in and love every bit. Still. I can't imagine ever redecorating, which is a little tragic I know.
OP, do you think that your taste in carpets will vary greatly once you're living there? Only thing to be careful of is the high traffic areas will need a good quality carpet to take the battering.i before e, except when you run a feisty heist on a weird beige foreign neighbour0 -
Carpet fitters are well used to fitting carpets in houses that have furniture in them. Move everything out of the lounge/diner you can move to somewhere else temporarily, which should leave just the sofa and armchair(s) and they shift these from one side of the room to the other as they fit the carpet..................
....I'm smiling because I have no idea what's going on ...:)

Do you need to paint the house? If so, remove the carpet at the edges, paint the ceilings, walls and woodwork, then get new carpet fitted. If you have more than one colour of carpet, you can always get a few rooms done, move stuff, then do the remaining rooms.Warning: This forum may contain nuts.0

Not sure my tastes will change but would be nice not to have to rush to get everything done.
Thanks for the reply's I think I'll wait a bit after moving in and get some of the messy jobs done and painting before putting the new carpets in, with how clumsy I am I'm bound to knock a tin of paint over on the new carpet otherwise!!House Buying Tracker:
